Environmental Policy
Skylark Vets Limited is a veterinary practice and mobile service which specialises in small animal and exotic animal care. At Skylark Vets, our team are always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable towards clients and their pets’ care. We acknowledge that our operations have an effect on the environment and have identified our key environmental aspects that contribute our environmental and carbon footprint:
- Consumption of electricity, gas, water, and oil
- Use of anaesthetic gases
- Waste generation
- Transport emissions
- Use of raw materials, including prescribed drugs and medicines
- Procured goods and services with their own environmental impact
Skylark Vets is committed to reducing its environmental impact through a journey of continual improvement by working through the Investors in the Environment accreditation scheme. We are using the support of the Investors in the Environment to aid us in providing the best quality care to our clients and their pets whilst minimizing our impact on the environment and supporting our planet where we can.
Our environmental commitment can be demonstrated in our established objectives and goals below:
- Compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and public/customer expectations
- Monitoring our key resource usage and implementing conservation techniques to achieve our environmental targets
- Implement a waste/recycling policy and sustainable procurement policy
- Minimising unnecessary transport by grouping appointments within certain areas together
- Take part in a One Health sustainability project with our staff
- Working with suppliers to ensure they acknowledge and decrease the environmental impact of their products and transportation
- Minimising the use of paper where a suitable alternative is available
We will continue to improve our environmental management system by working to the Investors in the Environment (iiE) criteria, considering any changes in legislation, our organisation, and other factors. We will convey this policy to all our employees ensuring that they are provided with training to increase awareness of environmental matters.
During our rebuilding of the clinic we will aim to meet all of the points stated above and ensure we are making choices for the new site to be even more sustainable than before, however this may affect some of our ways of working.
Lily Evans is our Sustainability Champion and has designated responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of this policy.
When requested, Skylark Vets will make this policy available to interested parties, including members of the public and making a copy available on the website.
